WBB | Laurentian Finishes Opening Weekend with a Split

After beginning the season with a win Friday night the Laurentian Voyageurs Women's Basketball team took to the floor again Saturday as they hosted the TMU Bold at the Ben Avery Gym.
With the game underway both teams began scoring at will, exchanging baskets all throughout the quarter. Laurentian ended up having a great scoring quarter from Emilie Lafond who shot 50% from the field and put up a team high 7 points in the first. The quarter would end with the Bold pulling out a slight lead of 19-16 going into the second.
The second quarter was one the Voyageurs would like to forget as right off the bat TMU would start the second on an 8-0 run extending their lead to 11. The rest of the quarter continued to see the Vees struggle offensively going only 4-15 shooting, allowing the Bold to extend their lead to 16 going into half
The third quarter was better as Laurentian cleaned up the defense coming out of the break with the Bold struggling offensively being limited to 4-15 shooting themselves with Laurentian able to cut the lead down slightly with the score sitting at 56-43.
Unfortunately the comeback was halted in its tracks as TMU's game management in the fourth quarter was formidable. The Vees were held to just 7 points in the fourth as they would go on to lose by a score of 73-50.
Laurentian's standout performer on the night was Emilie Lafond who continued to have a great game after her first quarter performance ending with a 19 point, 10 rebound, double-double.
The Vess are back in action Thursday night when they make the trip to Guelph to take on the Gryphons with game time set for 6pm.
