It was a nailing biting one-nil victory by the Voyageurs today as the team secured their first victory of the season. The only goal in the game came from a penalty kick in the 89th minute with Amanda Cuthbert staying calm and composed, firing the ball straight past Algoma keeper.

The game started fast with Algoma striker, Mercedes Ryan, having a shot on net. Luckily, for the Voyageurs, it went wide. The game continued back and forth during the first half with both teams having their fair share of corners and solid chances to put their team ahead but the game remained 0-0 when the halftime whistle blew.

The second half was similar to the first half with both teams struggling to produce real scoring opportunities until the 75th minute of the match when a shot from Algoma's Mia Giuliano had Hunter Jones make a fantastic save to keep the game tied. In the final moments of the match, a handball in the box by Algoma led to a Voyageurs penalty. Cuthbert calmly and shiftily buried the kick in the net giving the Voyageurs the win!

The Voyageur's record has improved to 1-2-1 with their next game scheduled for October 15th against the University of Toronto at the James Jerome turf.
