Mounties drop back and forth contest with SMU

(SACKVILLE, NB) Wanting to better their efforts from their last game on Friday, the Mounties hosted the Huskies in what was a back-and-forth contest. Saint Mary's would go on to win by a score of 4-2.

SMU captain Caleigh Meraw (Red Deer, AB) would open the scoring on the powerplay with a howitzer from the point as the penalty was about to expire.

Mount Allison would respond with a goal on the powerplay of their own in the second period as Lucy Newman (Thunder Bay, ON) pounced on a rebound. This opportunity to tie up the game came after the Mounties killed a penalty of their own with Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) standing tall in her net. Evelyn would go on to stop 34 of 38 shots directed her way.

Less than a minute later Julia Lee (North Vancouver, BC) would quickly make it 2-1 Mounties as her shot from the point had eyes and beat Ashley Imlach (Newtonville, ON) on the blocker side.

Reigning AUS MVP Shae Demale (Red Deer, AB) would take matters into her own hands to bring her team back square as she took the feed from Ashley Penney (Lawrencetown, NS) on the two-on-one and went bardown.

Moments later the Huskies would find themselves again on the powerplay and Subway Player of the Game Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) would give her team the 3-2 lead with a rebound in the slot. SMU would add their fourth and final goal courtesy of sharpshooter Ellen Laurence (Kentville, NS) who beat the Mounties goalie high glove side.

Saint Mary's (2-1-0-0) will travel to Fredericton to take on STU on October 21 at 7 p.m.

Mount Allison (0-4-0-0) also travels to play STU, puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. on October 22.
