Tigers fall to Panthers 86-61

The Dalhousie Tigers fell to the UPEI Panthers, 86-61, on Saturday at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.
During the first quarter, Dalhousie's Kaitlyn Ferrier made a notable impact, scoring a total of ten points, including two 3-pointers. Mercy Olugu also contributed by converting two free throws at 5:12 to narrow the gap, while Madelyn White added a layup towards the end of the quarter. Despite their efforts, Dalhousie trailed the Panthers, who led by as much as 12 points, finishing the quarter with a score of 30-20.
In the second quarter, Dalhousie mounted several scoring efforts, highlighted by Melina Collins converting a layup following her steal at 8:45. Karina Sarai contributed offensively with an offensive rebound and layup at 7:30, while also adding a late layup with 0:45 remaining. Kaitlyn Ferrier made a significant impact by scoring from the free-throw line twice at 1:10, reducing the deficit. Despite a strong push, Dalhousie ended the quarter with a score of 18, trailing the Panthers' 20 points.
In the third quarter, Dalhousie scored 19 points, led by Simona Matic and Mercy Olugu, who each contributed with layups at key moments, including a streak of scoring at 5:30 and 4:25. Dalhousie capitalized on turnovers by the Panthers, with Samantha Manieri and Madelyn White each registering a steal, aiding the team in reducing the deficit. Despite these efforts, Dalhousie was unable to overcome the Panthers' scoring, as they maintained a lead, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Devon Lawlor at 1:20, contributing to a 21-point quarter for the home team.
In the fourth quarter, Dalhousie struggled offensively, scoring only four points. Samantha Manieri contributed two successful free throws at 5:02, while Mercy Olugu added a layup with an assist from Manieri at 1:07. The team faced shooting challenges, converting just one basket out of 18 attempts, and committed four personal fouls. Despite their efforts, the Panthers maintained a strong performance, extending their lead to 25 points at one point during the quarter.
The Dalhousie basketball team showcased strong performances from several key players. Kaitlyn Ferrier led the team with 21 points, hitting 6 of 14 field goal attempts, including 3 3-pointers, and converting 6 of 8 free throws. Simona Matic contributed with 10 points, making 5 of 12 shots and recording two steals. Samantha Manieri was active on the boards, securing a team-high 8 rebounds, while also adding 5 points. Madelyn White added 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, demonstrating versatility on both ends of the court. These players stood out in their recent game, providing a solid foundation for the team's efforts.
