WHKY | Voyageurs Lose to Warriors

WHKY | Voyageurs Lose to Warriors
The Laurentian Voyageur women's hockey team kicked of their  weekend against the Waterloo Warriors this Friday night in Sudbury, for their first home game of 2020.

The Warriors were having a little more success thus far in their season with a current record of 10-7-0 whereas the Vees are held at 6-7-2.

The Warriors would be the first to score and Trisha Cho would get her first goal of the season after tipping a shot between the legs of Shanna Dolighan from her point.

The Vees would not stay quiet for long though as just five minutes later Natalie Lamarche would pick up her second goal on the season after being awarded a juicy loose puck in the slot and hammering it past Mikayla Schnarr for the equalizer. Karissa Hoskin and Brynn O'Dwyer would get the assists.

The Voyageurs would then score on Schnarr once more nearing the end of the first frame after Karrisa Hoskin would be awarded another rebound opportunity in the slot. Hoskin would score her team-leading fifth goal of the season and give the Voyageurs the one goal lead. Morgan McCann and Megan Arnott would be accredited the assists.

The Warriors would remain offensively triumphant after getting one goal in the second and another in the third frame and thus giving them the 3-2 lead. The Voyageurs pressed hard for the equalizer, outshooting the Warriors 14-8 in the final frame and 36-27 overall, but they couldn't beat Schnarr a third time. The game was also a clean game, with both teams getting just one powerplay opportunity, which was shut down by the other's penalty killers. The Warriors would pick up their tenth win on the season and send the Voyageurs into tomorrows game against the Laurier Golden Hawks on a season-high three-game losing streak. Saturday's game is the annual Bell Let's Talk game. Puck drop is just after 4 pm at Countryside Arena.
