Two goals late in second half give Sea-Hawks win over Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Rodi Kichimov (Winnipeg, Man.) scored the eventual game-winner at the 64th minute in Memorial's 2-0 win over the host Acadia Axemen.

A physical and fast-paced game took a turn for the worst for the Axemen when Kichomov scored to break the tie at 0-0.

Jacob Grant (St. John's, Nfld.) scored Memorial's second goal at the 74th minute to solidify the win.

The Axemen pressed hard throughout the match with nine shots, but the Sea-Hawks capitalized on two of five shots on goal – on a total of 11 shots.

"Our intensity and quality on the ball was off today. All our guys are very disappointed. They know that this doesn't represent what they are capable of, but they are determined to rebound," noted Axemen associate head coach Findlay MacRae.

First-year keeper Dylan Legere (Upper Tantallon, N.S.) had five saves and was tested throughout the game. Legere was named the Acadia Player of the Game for his efforts.

On the other end, Kirk Edwards (St. John's, Nfld.) was active at times, repelling several offensive attacks in the closing of the first and second half.

Jacob Grant led the Sea-Hawks with three shots on goal, while Acadia's Oscar Marshall (Lake Loon, N.S.) had three shots that had the crowd standing up.

Matt Hargest (Kitchener, Ont.) was named the Subway Player of the Game for his defensive effort.

The Axemen fall to 0-2 on the opening weekend of AUS Soccer, while the Sea-Hawks pick up their first win of the season after tying Moncton. Memorial improves to 1-1-0.

The Axemen will travel to Moncton this coming Saturday and Memorial will host the top-ranked Cape Breton Capers for two matches next weekend.
