Big fourth quarter pushes Panthers past X-Women
Panthers secure 72-62 win over X-Women, fueled by a dominant fourth quarter
Charlottetown, PE – The UPEI Panthers secured a 72-62 win over the STFX X-Women, fueled by a dominant fourth quarter where they outscored the visitors 25-14 Saturday night at the Chi Wan Young Sport Centre.
Despite trailing by one at halftime (32-31 in favor of STFX), UPEI's offensive surge in the final frame sealed the victory.
Lauren Rainford led the Panthers with 22 points and added 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 steal. Grace Lancaster contributed 14 points and had 5 rebounds, while Devon Lawlor scored 10.
Freshman Ayla White had a team-high 16 points for the X-Women, along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Ekaterina Karchevskaya netted 13 points and had 4 rebounds, while Shannon Neita scored 11 and had 8 rebounds and a block for X.
The X-Women's 20 turnovers proved costly as the Panthers capitalized on 22 points off turnovers.
The loss drops the X-Women to 7-8 on the season as they currently sit in sixth place with 14 points. They will be back in action on Saturday, February 8th when they host Saint Mary's in a 6:00 pm game.
