HALIFAX, NS - The U SPORTS #3 ranked Saint Mary's Huskies won their ninth straight game, defeating the Dalhousie Tigers 86-55 in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action on Saturday night at the Dalplex.
Saint Mary's took control early, outscoring Dalhousie 26-14 in the first quarter. Despite a solid shooting performance from the Tigers, particularly guard Melina Collins, who finished with 30 points on 9-of-13 shooting, Dalhousie struggled to contain the Huskies balanced offense throughout the game.
The Huskies were efficient, shooting 47% from the field, including 40.7% from beyond the arc. Their defense also stifled Dalhousie's offense, limiting the Tigers to just 28.6% shooting for the game.
Huskies forward Lucina Beaumont led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds. Aki Kobayashi stuffed the stat-sheet with 15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals, and Aliyah Fraser dropped 15 points including four three-pointers.
The win improves the Huskies record to 9-0 heading into the winter break, while the Tigers drop to 2-7. The Huskies will be back on home court to begin 2025 as they host the UPEI Panthers (6-3) on Friday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. GET TICKETS
