(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS scored a 6-1 victory over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action on Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
The REDS scored the win in front of 3148 spectators, most members of the Canadian Forces who were present on the REDS' Soldier Appreciation Night.
UNB took control early, scoring three goals in 64 seconds mid-way through the first period. Cole Huckins (Upper Kingsclear, NB) kicked things off, followed by Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC) and Sean McGurn (Ottawa, ON) giving UNB a commanding 3-0 lead.
In the second period, Cole Mackay (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) and Cody Morgan (Gilford, ON) each found the net before Michael Petizian (Mississauga, ON) capped off the scoring for the REDS.
The only goal for the Huskies came from Nathan Dunkley (Campbellford, ON), mid-way through the third period.
UNB outshot the Huskies 41-20.
With the win, the REDS are now 23-1-1-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) and remain at the top of the AUS standings while Saint Mary's is tied for third with a 14-9-2-0 record.
The Huskies will head to Moncton to face UdeM at 7:00pm on Saturday, while the REDS will host the Acadia Axemen with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:00pm.
