Strong third quarter powers Axewomen past X-Women
In a closely contested matchup, the Acadia Axewomen emerged victorious over the STFX X-Women, 74-66, Saturday night at Coach K Court.
Antigonish, NS - In a closely contested matchup, the Acadia Axewomen emerged victorious over the STFX X-Women, 74-66, Saturday night at Coach K Court.
Acadia's Sarah Delorey delivered a dominant double-double with 25 points and 18 rebounds, while Samantha Russell added 23 points and 9 rebounds. Acadia capitalized on turnovers, scoring 22 points off STFX's miscues.
Ekaterina Karchevskaya led the X-Women with 16 points and 5 assists, while Shannon Neita added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Despite outscoring Acadia 16-10 in the fourth quarter, STFX couldn't overcome their third-quarter deficit which saw the Axewomen outpace the home squad 24-12.
The score was 40-38 at halftime in favor of the Aewomen who outrebounded the X-Women 52-40 in the game.
Acadia's Delorey earned player of the game for her squad, while Neita was the STFX Gabriel Pizza player of the game.
The X-Women will be back in action on Thursday night, January 23rd when they travel to Sydney for a 6:00 pm game against the Cape Breton Capers.
The Axewomen will host the UPEI Panthers on Friday night, January 24th at 6:00 pm.
