X-Men handle Tigers 6-1
X-Men pick up an important two points with a big 6-1 win over the short-staffed Tigers Thursday night.
ANTIGONISH, NS - The STFX X-Men hockey team picked up an important two points with a big 6-1 win over the short-staffed Dalhousie Tigers at the Charles V Keating Centre on Thursday night.
Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game and first star on the night Alex Christopoulos led the way with two goals and two assists, while Simon Motew, with two goals and one assist was named second star and Logan Chisholm, with a goal and three assists, was the third star.
STFX came out of the gate hard and fast, with Motew one-timing home a pass from Charlie Callaghan and Connor Roberts 46 seconds into the game.

Seven minutes later, STFX forward Chisholm found an open Zack Trott, who buried a shot from the high slot through a screen for his eighth goal of the season.

Christopoulos notched his 13th goal of the year with six minutes to go in the period, lifting one into the open net following a tic-tac-toe passing play from Chisholm and Trott while the Tigers were on the penalty kill.

It was Chisholm's turn to light the lamp early in the second period, with the STFX captain one-timing a highlight reel pass from Trott.

Motew picked up his second of the night, three minutes later, sniping one top shelf after picking up a rebound.

Christopoulos potted his second goal of the game with four minutes left in the period, which ended with STFX leading 6-0.

The Tigers broke the shutout with six minutes to go in the game, as Colin MacDougall got the last stick to the puck after a scramble following a Joseph Serpa shot.
Alexander MacDonald and Nicholas Chenard shared duties in the Tigers net, making a combined 38 stops on the night. Lucas Pfeil had 20 saves on the night while picking up the win.
It's a quick turnaround for the X-Men, who host the UPEI Panthers on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. The Tigers get the day off before a matchup in Halifax with the UPEI Panthers on Saturday, February 1, at 7 p.m.
