The Gee-Gees were quick to administer a bounce-back after dropping their season opener 57-49 to the Guelph Gryphons.
Coming home from a southern Ontario road-swing with a pair of wins, the Gee-Gees will head into their home opener with momentum on their side.
Ottawa started with a 74-58 win over Windsor on Friday night. Natsuki Szczokin led the way with 17 points for the Gee-Gees, followed by Emily Payne who contributed 15 points on the night.
Newcomer, Allie McCarthy, was impressive from beyond the arch. Of her 13 points, three of her baskets were three-point shots.
McCarthy kept the same energy in Saturday night's contest with the Mustangs. In the 67-54 win, McCarthy contributed 10 points, scoring two from the three-point line.
Melina De lulio was all over the Mustangs, scoring 20 points and earning 7 rebounds. Szczokin was amongst the scoreboard leaders once again with 12 points and an impressive 5 steals.
The Gee-Gees did not let up in the second half, forcing the Mustangs into battle with the shot clock. Forced into many contested shots, the Mustangs were unable to get within ten points of the Gee-Gees.
Ottawa finished the game by piling on shots from the three-point line. Victoria Brideau, De lulio, and Szczokin each added three-balls late in the final quarter.
Ariane Saumure put up 6 points and 6 assists in her first game against her former team, and her defensive efforts helped Ottawa close out the weekend with two huge road wins.
The Gee-Gees now shift focus to their home opener, where Lakehead will be visiting Montpetit Hall on Nov. 17. On Nov. 18, the Brock Badgers will face off against the Gee-Gees. Both games are at 6 p.m. and tickets can be found at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
