The Gee-Gees women's basketball team earned lopsided wins against TMU and Toronto in the team's final regular season weekend at Montpetit Hall.
Ottawa defeated TMU 71-43 on Friday night, before defeating Toronto 79-48 on Saturday to close the weekend. With the wins, the Gee-Gees improve to 16-4 on the season heading into the final two games of the regular seasons slate next weekend.
On Friday, Allie McCarthy led the way for Ottawa with 18 points to go along with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Three other Gee-Gees finished scoring in double-figures with Natsuki Szczokin tallying 14 points and four rebounds, Emily Payne added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Ariane Saumure rounded things out with 11 points, five rebounds, and four steals on the night.
In all the Gee-Gees outshot (44.1% to 29.3%), outrebounded (43-36), and won the turnover battle (18-11) against the Bold in the dominant win.
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees used a well-rounded performance that saw 12 players checking into the game and 10 different players scoring in the win.
Emily Payne was the leading scorer for Ottawa with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Saumure added 14 points and five rebounds. McCarthy had 12 points, while Melina De Iulio and Szczokin added 10 points apiece.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will travel to Kingston and Oshawa for matchups against #3 Queen's (18-2) and Ontario Tech (1-19) on Friday and Saturday respectively. Friday's game will tip-off at 6 p.m. and Saturday's at 4 p.m. Both games will be streaming live on OUA.tv.
