Capers win back to back games over X-Women
CAPERS defeat X-Women by 75-70 margin in AUS regular season action Saturday evening
SYDNEY – The Cape Breton University CAPERS (4-0) defeated the STFX X-Women (2-2) by a 75-70 margin in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball regular season action on Saturday evening at the Sullivan Fieldhouse. The victory was the second in a row for the CAPERS over the X squad, having also secured a win in Antigonish Thursday evening.
The CAPERS netted the first basket of the game and kept the lead for the duration aside from a brief moment when the teams were tied in the second quarter. The X-Women fought hard and kept the game close throughout the game, with the largest gap in the score (11) at the end of the third quarter.
Shannon Neita (Toronto, ON) – the STFX player of the game - led the charge for STFX with 16 points and 8 rebounds followed by Laia Torrent Blanco (Cornella de Llobregat, SP) with 15 points. Kristine Cooper (Hamilton, ON) chipped in with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Kiyara Letlow (Toronto, ON) – the Subway player of the game for CBU - boasted a double-double with 29 points and 19 rebounds to secure the win for the CAPERS. Teammates Hailey MacLeod (Marion Bridge, NS) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds and Alicia Bowering (Orangeville, ON) with 11 points and 2 rebounds.
The X-Women head to UNB next weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday while the CBU CAPERS play their back-to-back games next weekend at Dalhousie.
