The X-Women mounted a strong second half to defeat the Tigers 66-61 in Halifax
Halifax, NS - The STFX X-Women secured a 66-61 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers at the Dalplex Wednesday night, garnering their first win of the New Year.
The game was a tale of two halves as the Tigers lead 15-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The X-Women narrowed the gap in the second, with the halftime score at 26-19 in favor of Dalhousie.
The X-Women mounted a strong comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 28-13 to take a 47-39 lead.
Despite a late push from Dalhousie, the X-Women maintained their lead, concluding the game with the 66-61 victory.
Krissy Cooper led the X-Women with 17 points. Shannon Neita achieved a double-double with 9 points and 13 rebounds, and Ekaterina Karchevskaya contributed 11 points and 3 assists.
For the Tigers, Kaitlyn Ferrier was the top scorer with 13 points. Sydney Guker-Wickie added 12 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and Samantha Manieri led the team with 10 rebounds.
The win improves the X-Women's season record to 6-5, while the Tigers fall to 2-9.
The teams are set for a rematch in Antigonish on Friday, January 10th at 6:00 PM.
