WEEKEND RECAP: Gee-Gees open OUA season 2-0 with wins at RMC

The Gee-Gees women's volleyball team kicked off their OUA regular season with two wins at RMC. On Friday, Ottawa defeated the Paladins 3-1, before closing their trip off with a 3-0 win on Saturday.
Gee-Gees captain Audrey Odigie had an outstanding weekend. On Friday, Odigie notched an impressive 22 kills to go along with two aces, two blocks and nine digs, making her the match's top scorer with 27 points. On Saturday, in one fewer set, Odigie tallied 16 kills, two more aces, and 10 digs. The third-year Brampton native currently leads the OUA and U SPORTS in kills per set with 5.43.
On Friday, after dropping a marathon first set 26-24, the Gee-Gees responded quickly to win the second set 25-20. Ottawa was dominant in the third and fourth sets winning 25-18 and 25-15.
On the defensive end on Friday, Brynn Lewis had a match high 15 digs, while Nicole Hildebrand added 12. Maxim Langevin had 30 assists on the night.
Saturday's match was a more dominant showing for the Gee-Gees, defeating the Paladins 25-17, 25-20, and 25-14 to close the weekend with two wins.
Christine Hachokake had a strong outing for Ottawa with nine kills, two aces, and three digs. Hildebrand finished with an outstanding 22 digs putting her at second in the conference in digs per set with 4.86.
"We are all excited to be back in the OUA and it is nice to start with a weekend sweep," said Gee-Gees head coach Lionel Woods. "Every week is going to be a new challenge; new gyms, new teams, and our athletes passed the first test with flying colours."

The Gee-Gees will hit the road again for a Thursday and Friday double-header at TMU. Ottawa previously faced the Bold in the Gee-Gees Pre-Season Classic, earning a 2-1 win. The matches are set for 6 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively and will be streaming live on OUA.tv.
