The Mounties played host to the UPEI Panthers Thursday night under the lights.
The Panthers fresh off a 4-0 win against Universite de Moncton took the game to the Mounties in the early half but as the play went on the Mounties began to settle in.
A defensive error led to a Panthers goal in the 28th minute off the foot of Neil Harte. Both teams battled it out in midfield for the remainder of the half.
UPEI scored a quick goal after halftime in the 46th minute as Sam Smiley found the back of the net. The Mounties responded at times carrying the play into the 60th and 70th minutes as the Panthers looked content to sit on their lead.
A late stoppage time goal off a set piece saw Smiley score his 2nd of the game as the Panthers sealed a 3-0 victory.
The Mounties will look to rebound when they host Acadia University this Sunday at 3:15 pm on Alumni Field.
