The Gee-Gees men's hockey team pulled off a big win over the #2 ranked Concordia Stingers on Thursday night, handing the Stingers their second loss of the season in an exciting manor.
Concordia logged the first game of the night with a shorthanded effort with only a minute remaining in the opening period.
From there, the teams exchanged goals. Bradley Chenier and Anson McMaster logged second period goals for Ottawa.
Things were tied up 2-2 to start the third. Zach Giroux snagged a powerplay score at the seven-minute mark, but Concordia's Simon Lavigne found a powerplay goal of his own moments later.
The overtime period didn't take too long. Peter Stratis fished the puck out of a scramble in front of the Gee-Gees goal, sending the puck out to the neutral zone for a hungry Alexis Bonefon.
Alone on the attack, Alexis Bonefon's backhand shot hit the mesh, signalling the end of the game only 42 seconds into overtime.
The overtime hero was the evening's points leader, recording a goal and assist on the evening. Gee-Gees goaltender, Franky Lapenna, adds a win to his statline after a 43 save effort.
Ottawa gets a bit of rest before heading to Laurier and Waterloo for Nov. 22 and 23.
