X-Women dominate from opening tip-off, securing a decisive 80-49 victory over REDS
Antigonish, NS - The STFX X-Women dominated the game from the opening tip-off, securing a decisive 80-49 victory over the UNB REDS. StFX showcased their offensive depth and defensive intensity, controlling the pace and capitalizing on turnovers throughout the game.
The X-Women came out strong in the first quarter, shooting 50% from the field and establishing an early 20-11 lead.
The home team maintained their efficiency, again shooting 50% while outscoring UNB 24-11 in the second frame, heading into halftime with a commanding 44-22 lead.
The third quarter saw STFX hit their stride with 60% shooting, adding 26 points to stretch the margin to 70-34.
UNB showed resilience with a 45.5% field goal percentage in the fourth, but couldn't overcome the deficit as the X-Women cruised to victory.
Ali Oluyole was the Gabriel Pizza player of the game for the X-Women, racking up 18 points, as well as contributing 6 rebounds.
Shannon Neita scored 14 points and had 4 steals for X, while Kristine Cooper netted10 points and had 7 rebounds.
Replying for the REDS, player of the game Katie Butts led the team with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Leah Travers scored 8 points and had 5 rebounds, with Lillian Fuller also scoring 8 on the night.
STFX's defensive pressure forced 23 UNB turnovers, converting those into 17 points.
The same two teams will be back in action again in less than 24 hours as they take to Coach K Court on Saturday in a 2:00 pm game, marking the final home game of the season for the X-Women.
