The Gee-Gees women's basketball team logged a lopsided 87-31 win in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday night.
Despite a comparatively close first quarter where Ottawa led by 5, the Gee-Gees outscored the Thunderbirds by a whopping 68-17 tally in the final three frames to cruise to the win.
With 10 different players finding the scoresheet, it was a full team effort. Ottawa was led by Ariane Saumure, who tallied 21 points to go along with six steals, and a pair of rebounds and assists each.
Melina De Iulio (15 points and eight rebounds) and Victoria Brideau (10 points and seven rebounds) also impressed in the win. Seeing expanded minutes, Alissa Provo finished with a well-rounded seven points and six rebounds, while Natsuki Szczokin added nine assists and six steals on the night.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will return to Montpetit Hall for a pair of matchups on Jan. 26 and 27 against Waterloo and Laurier.
The matchup with Waterloo will be the Gee-Gees opportunity to exact some payback on the team that ended their season in the OUA playoffs last year.
Tipoff for Friday's matchup is set for 6 p.m. and Saturday's for 2 p.m. Tickets for both games are available at tickets.geegees.ca and will be steaming live on OUA.tv.
