X-Men knock off Panthers 5-2
X-Men skate away with a 5-2 victory over UPEI Saturday night, their third straight win.
Charlottetown, PE – The STFX X-Men skated away with a 5-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers Saturday night, their third straight win.
The X-Men took an early lead with a power-play goal at 6:04 by Logan Chisholm, with Ryan Struthers and Raegan Wiles picking up the helpers.

UPEI tied the game at 13:47 with an even-strength marker from Cole Larkin, assisted by Yanic Crête and Cade Kowalski.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 after the first period with the X-Men holding a 9-6 shot advantage.
The Panthers gained the lead at 5:47 of the second period off a goal from Josh Currie, set up by Cameron Morton.
STFX quickly responded, scoring three unanswered goals, two of them coming off the stick of Alex Christopoulos.

He tallied at 6:56, taking a pass from behind the net from Zack Trott wiith Clark Webster adding the second assist. Christopoulos then struck again on the power play at 11:09, depositing a rebound off a shot from Trott. Chisholm also assisted.

Ben Mercer rounded out the third period scoring for the X-Men just over a minute later off a nice three-on-ione play, taking a pass from Cole Stewart then making no mistake depositing it into the Panthers net.

The Panthers had a 14-12 shot advantage in the middle period but found themselves trailing 4-3 after 40 minutes.
The third period was a penalty-filled affair. The X-Men scored their third power play goal of the night 3:33 into the period as Jacob Maillet connected with Connor Roberts and Simon Motew.

The goal would hold up as the only one of the period as X kept UPEI off the board and Patrick Leaver earned the win in nets with 27 saves.
Final shots in the game were 30-29 for the X-Men.
The X-Men will be back in action next Friday, January 24th when they travel to Moncton. The Panthers will host Saint Mary's on the 24th. Puck drop for both games is 7:00 pm.
