REDS Come Up Short On Senior Night
(FREDERICTON, NB) In a tightly contested battle at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center, the Acadia Axewomen edged the UNB REDS 73-67 in the final regular season game, for both teams, of the Atlantic University Sport women's basketball season.
One of the REDS' graduating players Katie Butts (Ottawa, ON) led the home team with a strong double-double, putting up 23 points and securing 11 rebounds.
Addie Mombourquette (Fredericton, NB) contributed 18 points, including a perfect two-for-two from the free-throw line, while Lilian Fuller (Dartmouth, NS) added nine points, making all four of her free throws.
For Acadia, Samantha Russell (Dartmouth, NS) dominated offensively with a game-high 33 points, while Bianca Helmig (Speyer, GER) chipped in 17 points.
The loss brings UNB to a 9-11 record, placing them sixth in the AUS standings, while Acadia finishes with a 15-5 record.
Both teams now turn their focus to the AUS Championships in Halifax next weekend, with their first-round opponents yet to be determined.
