(ST. JOHN'S, Nfld.) - Not wanting a repeat of Saturday's game, the Memorial Sea-Hawks jumped out to an early lead and held on to defeat the UPEI Panthers 66-65 in another close finish in AUS women's basketball on Sunday at the Field House.

The Sea-Hawks began to struggle offensively in the second quarter. Memorial was 0-6 from three-point distance, only earning six points in the quarter compared to 11 from the Panthers.

The halftime score was 38-28 in favour of the home team.

Memorial regained composure in the third quarter with a 14-point lead, but similar to the previous game, the Panthers came back with the heat in the fourth and were within three points half way through the quarter.

Memorial's defence was able to fend off all of UPEI's attempts in the last two minutes, and two fouls on the Panther's allowed Sandra Amoah (Toronto, Ont.) to make three out of four free throws to give the Sea-Hawks a one-point victory.

Amoah led the Sea-Hawks with 14 points and nine rebounds in the win. Megan Robinson (Waterloo, Ont.) added 13 of her own.

Tamara Tompkins (Centreville, N.B.) had 13 points off the bench to lead UPEI. Candice Smith (New Minas, N.S.) added 10 points in the loss.

Memorial's Sandra Amoah took the Subway player of the game honours.

The Sea-Hawks improved to 3-3 on the season while UPEI are now 3-3 with the loss. Both are in a three-way tie for fourth in the league with Cape Breton.

The Sea-Hawks are now on a break until after the holidays and will play next when they host Cape Breton Jan. 10 and 11 at the Field House.

UPEI has one more away game on Nov. 28 versus StFX before wrapping up for the holidays.
