Stewart Drops Triple Double on Panthers

The Memorial Sea-Hawks (5-9) split the series with the UPEI Panthers (12-2) after Sunday's 89-81 victory.

After a tough loss in the previous game, the Hawks decided to take it to the Panthers. They started fast, breaking out in transition and keeping the pace frantic. The Panthers struggled to keep up, and it showed with their fatigued offense.

For the Hawks, Sydney Stewart was once again leading the scoring efforts. She had 16 points in the first half. Memorial was able to maintain the lead after the first half, 43-31. Scoring was once again balanced for the Panthers, with Reese Baxendale leading contributors with 9.

The third quarter was more of the same. The Hawks kept on rolling, shooting decently from the field. The Panthers on the other hand, struggle to find any consistency on the offensive end. They were shooting just 10% from deep after three quarters.

Despite their struggles throughout the game, the Panthers flipped the switch in the final frame. They were able to tie up the game after five minutes of play, shifting their struggles in to success. Memorial was able to ride out the Panthers late push, with some clutch plays.

Sydney Stewart was a massive contributor in this Hawks win, with a dagger three-pointer to push the Hawks lead in to safe territory and shutting down the last second shot from UPEI. Stewart finished with an incredible triple double, 33 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, notching another Subway player-of-the-game award.

For the Panthers, Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Reese Baxendale each had over 20 points. They made a great push late, but it wasn't enough to sweep the Hawks on their home court.

This was a great win for Memorial, who has struggled to string together consecutive wins this season. They will look to continue their winning streak at StFX next weekend, both being 4-point games.
