Mounties leave it all on the ice in loss to Huskies on Senior Night
(SACKVILLE, NB) While playing in front of the season's biggest home crowd to support their graduating seniors, the Mounties fell 4-2 to the Saint Mary's Huskies.
Mount Allison sustained the early pressure from the Huskies and were rewarded with the game's first goal as fourth-year forward Lauren Steele (Stratford, PEI) buried the puck in tight.
The Huskies would respond less than five minutes later as Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) made no mistake to tie the game at 1-1. Shots after 20 minutes would favour the visiting team 18-5.
Hatt would add her second of the night on the powerplay at the 1:37 mark of the second period to give the Huskies their first lead.
The Mounties would build off the crowd's energy and tie the game moments later as Mollie Grabe (Carleton Place, ON) slotted the rebound in the back of the net.
Saint Mary's would take the lead once again before the end of the second period as Kara MacLean (Antigonish, NS) scored her eight goal on the season to make it 3-2 Huskies.
The Huskies would pull away with a goal on the powerplay courtesy of a nice tip from Kate Gallant (Brooklin, ON).
Pacing the Mounties in nets was Kaitlyn Evelyn (Courtice, ON) as she steered away 40 of the 44 shots she faced. Huskies goalie Sophie Scully (Ottawa, ON) would go on to save 18 shots.
Subway Player of the Game would go to Miranda Hatt (Eastern Passage, NS) as she finished with two goals on five shots.
Mount Allison (2-17-1-1) will travel to Fredericton to take on the Tommies on January 25, puck drop is at 7 p.m.
Saint Mary's (13-8-1-0) for their part will host Dalhousie on January at 7 p.m.
