Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (11-9-6-0=28pts, 4th position) exploded with four goals in the second period to defeat Dalhousie University Tigers (5-18-2=12pts, 7th position), 6-1 at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action Saturday evening.
The win qualified the Aigles Bleus for the playoffs with four games left in regular season. Subway player of the game, Alexis Roy, led the offensive with a hat trick and an assist. He was +4 with 6 shots on goal. Maxime St-Cyr, Ryan Chiasson and Joey Richard completed the scoring. St-Cyr added three assists. Campbell Pickard (Halifax, NS) did give the visitors a 1-0 lead early in the first period, at 3:28. Moncton goaltender Étienne Montpetit then blocked all 17 shots on goal for the win. Connor Hicks (Kanata, ON) had a busy evening with 45 shots, including 21 in the second and 14 in the first periods in a losing cause. Moncton was 2 for 4 on the power play and Dalhousie, 0 for 5. Moncton led 2-1 following 20 minutes of play and 6-1 after 40. There was no third period scoring.
The Aigles Bleus travel to Nova Scotia Friday and Saturday to meet Saint Mary's University Huskies and Acadia University Axemen respectively. Dalhousie host UPEI in a rescheduled game Monday before travelling to Antigonish on Wednesday to meet the X-Men.
