(WOLFVILLE N.S.) - It was the 4-0-4 Acadia Axewomen taking on the 3-2-2 StFX X-Women in Friday night action at Raymond Field.
Despite dominance throughout the game by the Axewomen, the final score would be 0-0 as Acadia was unable to get passed X-Women keeper Erin Visser.
The last time these teams met was in Wolfville on Sept. 19 and that game also resulted in a scoreless tie.
The Axewomen, with strong passing and spacing, dominated the first half but they were unable to get on the scoreboard. Their efforts culminated on a free kick taken by second-year midfielder Katie Ross which Subway player of the game Visser was able to force off the cross bar. That save marked a number of near opportunities that Visser thwarted.
The half ended 0-0, but StFX started the second half slow and it continued to be their defensive curtain led by their keeper who kept X-Women in the game.
StFX had a number of opportunities in the second frame but were unable to take advantage. Both teams displayed strong defensive performances to end the game scoreless.
Acadia Subway player of the game, Alana Fairfax, was integral in the Axewomen's defensive line-up, steering away any opportunity the X-Women attempted to generate. The fifth-year defender also helped her team communicate positioning and consistently executing throw ins.
Fifth-year keeper Caroline Wood recorded her fourth shutout of the season for the Axewomen.
With the tie, Acadia remains undefeated and in second place in the AUS standings with 17 points while X-Women are now tied with Memorial for fifth place with a 3-2-3 record.
Later this weekend Acadia will head to Cape Breton for a Sunday afternoon matchup while StFX will head home to face Memorial.
