Axewomen clinch playoff berth in 3-1 win over Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. - The Axewomen concluded weekend play in Moncton against the host Aigles Bleus. A 3-1 win over host Moncton clinched a playoff berth for the Axewomen.

Acadia won the match in four sets, winning 25-11, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-22.

Moncton's Jessie Robichaud registered 14 digs, Christelle Bertin, 8 kills and 44 attacks and Sophie Bastarache, 23 assists for the Blue and Gold.

Subway player of the game, Sarah Ross, had 11 kills for the visitors and Kailey Evans, 16 digs.

"After a tough match on Friday the team responded exactly how I was hoping they would on Sunday. Moncton is a challenging team to play especially in their own gym," said Acadia head coach Michelle Wood.

"The team's hard work was recognized after the match against Moncton, solidifying a spot in playoffs. However our foot will remain on the gas peddle for the remaining 6 matches left in regular season play," concluded Wood.

The Axewomen improve to 9-5 and sit third in the AUS standings, four points behind second-place Saint Mary's with 22 points. This year's AUS championship is hosted by Memorial on the weekend of March 2-4. The Axewomen have six games remaining in the regular season including Saturday's match at 7:00 p.m. versus Moncton and Sunday's match against Saint Mary's beginning at 2:00 p.m. (rescheduled game).
