Pond leads Memorial to 60-52 win over UNB

(ST. JOHN'S, N.L.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks handed the UNB Varsity Reds a 60-52 loss in AUS women's basketball on Saturday night in St. John's.

Fourth-year guard Kelia Pond led the Sea-Hawks in the win with a season-high 23 points.
Pond shot 8-18 from the field including two of three from three-point territory and 5-6 from the free throw line on her way to Subway Player of the Game honours.

Sandra Amoah added 11 points and six rebounds while Chante Clarke scored 10 off the bench for the Sea-Hawks.

Awo Farah led UNB with 13 points and nine rebounds in the loss to earn player of the game for the visitors.   

Memorial improved to 4-5 with the win, putting them in sole possession of fourth place in the AUS standings at the end of Saturday's schedule.

UNB fell to 3-7 with the loss.

The game was Memorial's CIS Shoot for the Cure fundraiser for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The two teams face off again Sunday in their second of two weekend games.
