Aigles Bleus win 6-2 over Tommies

(MONCTON, N.B.) - Defenceman Rémi Blanchard contributed three assists to lead the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus to a 6-2 win over the St. Thomas University Tommies in an Atlantic University Sport men's hockey game played Friday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena, in front of 960 spectators.

Simon Lacroix, Samuel Groulx and Danny Chiasson gave a 3-1 lead to the Aigles Bleus in the first period while Alexandre Quesnel and Allain Saulnier made it 5-1 going in the third. Alex Emond completed the scoring in the third. Eric Faille collected two assists.

Colin Martin, in the first and third periods, scored both visitors goals.

Moncton had a 39-28 advantage on shots on goal. In the battle of the Jonathan's, Connely was the winning goaltender while Groenhyde suffered the loss.

"We put a lot of pressure on them," said Subway Player of the Game and defenceman Rémi Blanchard. "Their first goal gave us a scare, but we expected them to come out strong. All was going well for us tonight. The defensive game went well and Connely made a number of saves."

"We came out strong and we found the rhythm," added Eric Faille. "We had the bounces tonight and it went in our direction."

"I really enjoyed how we played tonight," said Aigles head coach Serge Bourgeois. "I asked our team to play well defensively and we did a great job, even if we had a few giveaways."

The Aigles will host the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds this evening, Saturday, Jan. 11, at 7 p.m. at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

*Game Note: Eric Faille, Simon Lacroix and Serge LeBlanc of the Aigles Bleus and Jonathan Groenhyde of the Tommies were recognized before the game for winning the goal medal with Team Canada at the FISU Winter Universiade played in Trentino, Italy in December.
