(SYDNEY, N.S.) – The 2016 Subway AUS Women's Soccer Championship got underway at CBU Field Thursday night with the No. 3-seeded Acadia Axewomen taking on No. 6 Dalhousie. The first quarterfinal match was a defensive battle with both teams playing tight in the first half.
The teams loosened up in the second half and traded goals.
Dalhousie broke the deadlock in the 64th minute with a goal mouth scramble off a corner kick. Jensen Hudder (White's Lake, N.S.) poked the ball through the crowd for the Tigers.
The lead did not last long as Acadia tied the game in the 71st minute with a similar scramble off a corner kick. Katie Cross (Bedford, N.S.) put the corner kick into the box and Allie Scovil (Hubley, N.S.) put the ball in the back of the net.
The team failed to score anymore in regulation and headed into extra time.
With the victory, Acadia now faces the No. 2-seeded Memorial Sea-Hawks in the second semifinal on Friday at 7.30 p.m. at CBU Field.
