(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) - The Acadia women's rugby team took their second last step in completing an undefeated season with an 88-5 win over the UPEI Panthers.

The Axewomen improve to 7-0 with one game remaining in the regular season next Saturday night at home against the defending AUS champion StFX X-Women.

Panther Holly Jones was the only UPEI player to score in today's match. The Axewomen posted 11 tries with league-leading point scorer Emilie Chiasson accounting for four of the team total.

Chiasson's four tries and nine conversions against the Panthers was a record-breaking performance that allowed Chiasson to surpass the previous record for the most points scored in a regular season.

Prior to today's game, Magali Harvey of the StFX X-women led the AUS scoring race with a record-breaking 145 points last season in eight regular season games. Chiasson's 38 points scored in the UPEI win, pushed her season total to 172 points with one regular season game remaining.

The Axewomen remained scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the game. Chiasson then scored the first try of the match. Janna Slevinsky added three tries, while teammates Riley Kitchin and rookie Laura Klingenberg each scored two. Also adding to the Axewomen's total were Amber Davison, Maddie MacKenzie and Veronique Russell, scoring a try apiece. Chiasson converted nine of the 11 tries.

Axewomen head coach Matthew Durant was proud of Chiasson's accomplishment. "Emilie has been consistent all season for us," he said. "She has a very high rugby IQ and sees the field well. She deserves her accolades and is deserving of the honour of holding this new record."

The Axewomen will prepare for their last game of the regular season this Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the StFX X-Women at Acadia's Raymond Field.
