Axewomen improve to 6-0 with 106-0 win over UPEI

(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) - The CIS No. 5-ranked Axewomen rugby team remain undefeated with a 106-0 win over the UPEI Panthers. With the win, they improve to 6-0 and continue to hold onto first place in the AUS standings.

The convincing victory over the Panthers gives Acadia 476 points scored in six games so far and only 18 scored against; 13 points came at the hands of StFX who lost to Acadia 44-13.

As the season winds down, the plot thickens with the last of two remaining games being against StFX. A win over StFX will clinch first place. A loss to StFX and a point spread of 30 points or less will give the Axewomen first place in the AUS standings.

Today's game, Today's game, which did not include the services of 15 dressing players, was highlighted by Subway Player of the Game Emilie Chiasson's 31 points, including three trys and eight conversions.

Head Coach Matt Durant noted the absence of several key players. "Of the 15 (including Maddie Fray, who was injured), 11 were regular starters or subs. I continue to be so impressed with the level of play that our rookies have already," he said. "These games have given me the opportunity to see many rookies who wouldn't have gotten as much time and many are performing at a very high level.  We have lots of positive energy moving towards the AUS championship weekend".

Rookie Laura Klingenberg added four trys, one in the first half and three in the second, as the Axewomen took a 58-0 halftime lead and added 48 more points after the break.

The Panthers and Axewomen will play again next Saturday at UPEI starting at 3 p.m.
