(HALIFAX, NS) – The Dalhousie Tigers continued their undefeated season with a 3-1 win over the UNB Varsity Reds on Friday January 27 at the Dalplex. This was the fourteenth consecutive win of the season for the Tigers who are a perfect 14-0. The Varsity Reds have yet to record a win, falling to 0-15.

It was a balanced attack from Dalhousie, as six different players had at least six kills. The Tigers were lead by outside hitter Mieke DuMont (Kamloops, BC) with 10 kills, and Emma Ciprick (Binscarth, MB) with 9. The Tigers ended the game with 51 kills.

The Varsity Reds finished with 33 kills, lead by Robyn Anderson (Fernie, BC) who had 9 kills and Megan Kuciak (Ottawa, ON) who had 7.

The Tigers took an early 7-3 lead in the first set and didn't look back.

Six service errors from UNB resulted in the Tigers going into the technical timeout with a 16-9 lead.

The Tigers continued their momentum out of the technical timeout with five different individuals recording kills to win the set 25-16.

Dalhousie came out into the second set with the same energy they finished the first with.

Two kills from Lauren Koskowich (Calgary, AB) combined with two huge blocks from Victoria Haworth (Waverly, NS) and Anna Dunn-Suen (Halifax, NS) lead the Tigers to a 10-2 lead.

Again the Tigers would not look back, cruising to a 25-11 win in the second set.

The Varsity Reds entered the third set with an improved energy; as they were getting quality digs and capitalized on several kill opportunities. The Tigers, on the other hand, had a tough time keeping their kill attempts in the boundary lines.

Strong serving from Kuciak energized the Varsity Reds to a 7-3 lead in the early stages of the third set.

A massive kill from Haworth woke the Tigers up as they responded with six straight points to take their first lead of the set.

The remainder of the set was evenly matched, with both the teams exchanging leads before being deadlocked at 21. With the tie the Varsity Reds turned up the heat.

A kill from Taylor Hutchinson (Bridgewater, NS) propelled the Varsity Reds into the lead. UNB would not let the lead slip in the closing points of the third set, winning the set 25-22.

The forth set began much the way third did, as the two teams exchanged the first eight points before an emphatic kill from Courtney Baker (Bridgewater, NS) ignited the Tigers to a eight straight points.

UNB would narrow the lead to just two points, but the Tigers would not let the lead slip this time. Dalhousie finished off the game with a 25-18 forth set win.

The Subway players of the game were Victoria Haworth for Dalhousie and Maggie McLenahan (Oromocto, NB) for UNB.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow as they battle each other again at 2:00pm at the Dalplex.
