Sea-Hawks Earn Road Win Over CBU

Sydney, NS – The Capers dropped their home opener to the Memorial Sea-Hawks with an 81-78 loss on Saturday evening at the Sullivan Fieldhouse. The Capers were unable to overcome a poor second quarter in which they were outscored 29-15. They made a furious comeback in the third and fourth quarters but were unable to keep the Sea-Hawks down in the fourth. The Capers received a strong game from  MacKenzee Ryan (Glace Bay, NS) who had 25 pts, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sydney Guker-Wickie (Waterloo, ON) provided some depth off the bench with 9 pts and 5 rebounds and Hailey MacLeod (Marion Bridge, NS) chipped in 6 points and 6 rebounds in 17 minutes. The Sea-Hawks were led by impact player Haillie Nickerson who had 23 points and 10 rebounds. Alana Short also had a strong game with 22 points in 28 minutes for the Newfoundland school.

Turning point – The Capers had a chance to tie the game late but an errant pass gave the Sea-Hawks possession and the Capers had to foul. The Sea-Hawks made 1 of 2 foul shots to take a 3-pt lead with only seconds left.
