UNB defeats CBU in final game of regular season

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds women's volleyball team defeated the Cape Breton Capers 3 sets to 0 in their final game of the regular season. 

Victoria Eadle (Gallagher Ridge, N.B.) registered eight kills, five digs and two blocks. Vanja Mitrovic (Fredericton, N.B.) made 10 huge kills giving the UNB Varsity Reds a win in their final regular season game. 

Subway player of the game Janie-Eve Doucet (Fredericton, N.B.) had eight digs and kept the positive momentum moving for UNB throughout the game. She stood out to UNB head coach Jilliane Goulet.

"She handled her serve receive very well," Goulet said. "They were serving her most of the match and she passed and handled that responsibility very well."
 
Although CBU started strong and held their own throughout the match UNB took control and swept CBU 3-0. The scores were 25-22, 25-14 and 25-17 respectively.

UNB's graduating players were recognized at the end of the game - Vanja Mitrovic (Fredericton, N.B.), Paige Paulsen (Keswick Ridge, N.B.) and Jacqueline Sebatovsky (Eastern Passage, N.S.). All three graduates are academic all-Canadians and have made a huge impact on the women's volleyball team. 

UNB currently stands in third place heading into the AUS championship with a 9-7 record. 
UNB head coach Jilliane Goulet says she is expecting close and exciting matches in the AUS championship.

"I think we have a group that thrives on big games and big energy so I think it should work in our favour next weekend," she said. 

UNB will host the Subway AUS Women's Volleyball Championship Feb. 13-15, 2015 at the Richard J. Currie Centre. The schedule for the championship will be released Sunday.
