Alberta's Bob MacGregor had a banner day with two touchdowns and 102 yards rushing but it was all for naught as Western emerged on top in the 15-14 squeaker.
Western quarterback Joe Fabiani threw for 234 yards.
This marked Western’s first of 11 Vanier Cup appearances, a record.
