Marauders outlast Huskies to claim fifth place

The match, a rematch of last year's fifth-place game, showcased the resilience and determination of both teams as they fought for a strong finish to their seasons.
Saint Mary's started strong, taking the first set 25-21 behind a balanced attack led by Emilia Mikanovich, who finished the match with a team-high 21 kills. The Huskies' defense, anchored by libero Morgan Hoskins, also played a key role in stifling McMaster's offense early on. However, McMaster responded in the second set, narrowly edging out Saint Mary's 25-23, thanks to standout performances from Angelika Vidmar (13 kills, .650 hitting percentage) and Sullie Sundara (13 kills).
The Huskies regained control in the third set, dominating with a 25-14 win as Grace Blaskovits orchestrated the offense with precision, tallying 31 assists. But McMaster refused to back down, rallying in the fourth set with a commanding 25-18 victory, fueled by Olivia Julien and Emma McKinnon, who combined for 20 kills and solid defensive play.
The decisive fifth set saw McMaster seize momentum early, racing to a 15-6 win. The Marauders' defense, led by Hayley Brookes (14 digs), and their ability to capitalize on Saint Mary's errors proved decisive. Chayse Victoria also shone with 39 assists, directing McMaster's offense with poise.
Despite the loss, Saint Mary's had standout performances from Sydney Fader (11 kills) and Alena Piatukhova (6 kills, 4 blocks).
The Marauders finish the season with a 22-7 overall while, while Saint Mary's closes with a 21-13 record.
