
Montreal outlasts McMaster in opening five-set thriller
Third-year Milicia Djordjevic tallied 18 kills and eight digs to rally the No. 5 Montreal Carabins to a five-set upset (25-19, 13-25, 17-25, 25-21, 17-15) of the No. 4 McMaster Marauders Friday afternoon, in the first quarterfinal of the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian Myriam Kayser-Tourig and RSEQ Second Team All-Star Florence Cloutier each added seven kills, with Cloutier nailing the game-winner on the second match point, as the Carabins fought back from a 2-1 deficit to advance to Saturday night's semifinal.
Ilona Milan and Sarah McGlashan also chipped in 18 digs apiece for Montreal.
Sullie Sandara led the way for the OUA champion Marauders with 17 kills and 15 digs, while conference First Team All-Star Olivia Julien had 13 kills and 15 digs respectively.
With the win, the Carabins will play the winner of the of the second quarterfinal between the No. 1-seeded CW Champion Alberta Pandas and the No. 8 AUS finalist Memorial Sea-Hawks, on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT. The Marauders will face the loser of that match in Saturday's consolation semifinal at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT.
