
Top-ranked Alberta sweeps Memorial
Third-year outside hitter Mackenzie Pool had eight kills and seven digs to lead a balanced Alberta attack, as the No. 1 Pandas swept the No. 8 Memorial Sea-Hawks 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-18) in the second quarterfinal of the 2025 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball Championship Friday at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
Fresh off their CW Championship, Second Team All-Stars Abby Guezen and Allie Moore, along with Laila Johnston all added seven kills for Alberta, while U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian Justine Kolody registered 23 assists.
AUS All-Rookie Olivia DeDecker had 10 kills and five digs and Second Team All-Canadian Lydia Grawer recorded six kills for Memorial, as the Sea-Hawks' made just their first appearance at the U SPORTS Championship in 25 years and fourth in program history.
Alberta cruised to a .441 hitting percentage in the match, compared to Memorial's .078.
With the win, Alberta advances to Saturday's semifinal, where they will meet the No. 5 Montreal Carabins at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT, while Memorial will prepare for a consolation semifinal match against the No. 4 McMaster Marauders on Saturday 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT.
