OTTAWA - The uOttawa Gee-Gees put on an impressive showing in a
3-1 victory over Queen’s on Thursday night at Montpetit
Hall.
Head coach Lionel Woods was excited to see his team play their best
match this season thus far. “That’s by far the best
match we’ve played all season,” said Woods.
“We’re working so hard on our mental consistency and
trying to mature in how we approach the game and how we can stay
stable.”
“But Queen’s forced us to play our best match, and
kudos to them with such a young team,” he added.
In the first set, it was back-and-forth as both teams traded points
down the stretch, but ultimately the Gee-Gees would prevail
25-22.
The second set was much different, with Queen’s finding a few
holes and cruising to a 25-13 win. Nevertheless the Gee-Gees would
make theappropriate adjustments, and go on to take the next two
sets 25-13, 25-19 for their second win of the season.
Fifth-year libero Claudia Séguin (St-Pascal Baylon, Ont.)
was named player of the game for the uOttawa Gee-Gees. Woods was
more than pleased from what he saw from his veteran libero,
“(Claudia) tonight looked like Libero of the Year last
year,” said Woods.
“Not to say that she doesn’t work hard every night for
us, it’s just tonight her feet were moving, she was making
all the right reads, and just looked in tuned with the
game.”
The Gee-Gees will continue their early season homestead when they
host RMC (1-1 OUA) on Sunday, October 30, 2011, 4:00 p.m. at
Montpetit Hall.
