Gaiters drop women's soccer decision to UQTR
LENNOXVILLE, Que. - A goal by Gabrielle Rivest in the 85th minute was the difference maker as the UQTR Patriotes beat the Bishop's Gaiters in Quebec University Soccer League women's action Sunday afternoon at Coulter Field. Rivest took a through ball from Josianne Pothier, and fired the ball into the top corner, giving the Patriotes their first win of the season.
While, the Gaiters put forth a solid performance, however they were unable to put a goal past Stephanie Rousseau in the Patriotes' net. Rousseau made five saves to pick up the shutout. In a repeat of Friday night's game, the Gaiters were unlucky not to put a ball in the back of the opposition net as a few tough bounces kept them off the score sheet.
It was a tight checking match with both sides playing a physical game and combining for 25 fouls, with UQTR taking 17.
First-year goalkeeper Molly Bucholtz (Peterborough, Ont.), had another great game in the Gaiter net, as she stopped eight shots.
Stephanie Burnett (Durham, Conn.) and Katie Wallace (Stanstead, Que.) were the main forces offensively for the Gaiters, creating the majority of their scoring opportunities. Wallace took home MVP honors for the Gaiters with Rivest being awarded MVP for the Patriotes.
The Gaiters (1-9-2) will return to action on Friday as they take on the Sherbrooke Vert et Or (6-2-3) at 5 p.m. on Coulter Field.
