Citadins shut out Gaiters 1-0
A 28th-minute goal by Lora Lehr was all the UQAM Citadins needed to slip past the Bishop's Gaiters 1-0 in women's soccer action tonight at Coulter Field. Lehr took a pass from Marie-Claude Beaulac across the goalmouth and calmly slid the ball into the net to score the only goal of the contest.
Beaulac intercepted a pass by Gaiters' goalkeeper Becky Yates (Halifax, N.S.) at the top of the penalty area, and found Lehr on the right side of the net.
The Gaiters came agonizingly close to tying the contest on the game's last play, as a shot by Katie Wallace bounced off the inside of the goalpost seconds before the final whistle.
Constance Lefebvre picked up the win in net for UQAM, while Yates, playing her first game in a week, took the loss for Bishop's, but was named the team's game MVP.
The Gaiters' next action is on Friday, September 24, as they host the Montreal Carabins. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be webcast on SSN Canada.
