CIS women's hockey Thursday roundup: Brock knocks off No. 5 Gryphons 4-3 in OT
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (4-3-0 OUA) knocked off the No. 5 ranked Guelph Gryphons by the score of 4-3 in overtime.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (4-3-0 OUA) knocked off the No. 5 ranked Guelph Gryphons by the score of 4-3 in overtime Thursday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
Guelph opened the scoring 2:42 into the second period with a shorthanded marker from Erin Small, her fifth goal of the season. Jacky Sollis and Tamara Bell added the assists .
The Gryphons would take a two-goal lead at the 7:14 mark, when Kimberley Wong and Brittney Crawford setup Kaitlyn Mora for the power play goal.
Just past the midway point of the second, the Badgers would cut the lead to one, as sophomore Katie Howlett (Burlington, Ont.) and senior Kristen Dewsbury (Oshawa, Ont.) setup sophomore Megan Keane (Pefferlaw, Ont.) who beat Guelph goaltender Brooke Siddall for her third goal of the year.
Four minutes later with 4:13 remaining in the second, Brock would even the score at 2-2, as sophomores Leigh Vanderveen (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) and Jessica Fickel (Fort Erie, Ont.) setup junior Brianne Veale (Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) for her second of the campaign.
The Gryphons would take a 3-2 lead 2:44 into the third period. Jenna Lanzaratto took the original shot that was stopped by Brock freshman goaltender Chantal Bicket (Oshawa, Ont.), but it was Kristen Nixon burying the rebound on the edge of the crease.
Brock's Fickel would tie the game 3-3 at 10:44 of the third. She picked up the loose puck in the neutral zone and walked in all alone on Siddall and buried it past her for her third goal of the season.
Just 2:23 into overtime, Howlett setup Keane who buried a wrist shot over the shoulder of Siddall for the game-winner.
In goal, Bickett recorded 23 saves for her fourth victory of the season, which included her third straight. Siddall collected 23 saves in the loss.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, October 29th at 3:15 pm when they host the York University Lions at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
