Ravens set up championship rematch after dispatching Gee-Gees
The No. 3-seeded Carleton Ravens defeated the No. 2-seeded Ottawa Gee-Gees 84-60 in the second semifinal of the 2025 INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women's Final 8 on Saturday at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. With the win, the two-time defending champion Ravens avenged their defeat to their local rivals in last week's OUA championship game.
The Ravens dominated Saturday's game from the start, building a 26-7 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. Tatyanna Burke led Carleton with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Teresa Donato added 17 points, including four three-pointers. The Ravens shot 45.6 per cent from the field and outrebounded Ottawa 44-31.
Ottawa shoting 43.4 per cent but were hampered by their 24 turnovers. Natsuki Szczokin paced the Gee-Gees with 12 points, five assists, and three steals, but Ottawa couldn't overcome a slow start and Carleton's relentless defense. The Ravens' bench outscored Ottawa's 36-26, showcasing their depth.
Carleton's defense was pivotal, forcing 19 turnovers and holding Ottawa to just 7 points in the first quarter. The Ravens also capitalized on fast breaks, scoring 19 points in transition. Ottawa made a push in the third quarter, outscoring Carleton 26-13, but the Ravens responded with a strong fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Ottawa will close out their season on Sunday at noon (all times Pacific) in the bronze medal game against the host UBC Thunderbirds.
With the win, Carleton advances to the national championship game, where they will face the Saskatchewan Huskies in a rematch of last year's championship game, won by Carleton 70-67. That game is set for 4 p.m., and will air on Sportsnet in English and TVA Sports in French.
