KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's Gaels swim team won five gold
medals this weekend at their only home meet of the year, the
Queen's Quad Meet.
The event also featured teams from the University of Ottawa,
Carleton University and Trent University.
The Gaels were led Christopher Kreutzner of
Toronto, who earned three gold medals, including two individual
golds. Kreutzner won the men's 100m breaststroke in a time of
1:07.84 seconds, almost three full seconds ahead of the second
place finisher. He followed that up with a victory in the men's
200m breaststroke with a time of 2:28.40.
Finally, to cap off his successful meet, Kreutzner helped the Gaels
capture the men's 4x100m freestyle relay. The Gaels team, also
featuring Julian Chang of Richmond, Hill, Ont.,
Dustin Lam of Vancouver, and Mark
Kellenberger of Oakville, Ont., finished in a time of
3:39.41, just .17 seconds ahead of second place Ottawa.
Queen's also captured gold in the men's 4x50m freestyle relay. The
team of Chang, Kellenberg, Lam and Dylan Xu of
Scarborough, Ont., touched the wall in a time of 1:38.02.
The Gaels other individual gold medalist was first-year biology
major Margo Bacher of Cornwall, Ont., who captured
the women's 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:46.24.
The results bode well for Queen's as they prepare for the OUA
championships in two weeks time. The event, which is being hosted
by the Brock Badgers, runs February 4-7 in St. Catharines, Ont.
