The StFX X-Men triumphed over Mount Royal with a narrow 2-1 victory in the first consolation semifinal of the 2024 Bruce Power U SPORTS Men’s Soccer Championship on November 8, 2024, at Vaso's Field. With this win, STFX improved its record to 11-2-1, while Mount Royal concluded their season at 11-3-2.
The match was tightly contested from the outset. The X-Men opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Cameron Shaw found the net with a well-placed shot, assisted by Fergus Hall. Mount Royal struggled to respond, taking six shots in the first half but failing to capitalize on their chances.
In the second half, X doubled their lead with a goal from Isaac VanWychen in the 58th minute, assisted by Logan Rieck. Mount Royal answered back just moments later when Joshua Flaksman got one back, scoring in the 60th minute with help from Skyler Rogers, but they could not find an equalizer.
STFX goalkeeper Samuel Diltz made eight saves, securing the win against Mount Royal's six saves from Sjard Strauss and Bryce Benton.
With the win, STFX advances to Saturday’s consolation final.
