York Lions clip McGill’s wings to take bronze medal
The York Lions secured the bronze medal at the Bruce Power U SPORTS Men's Soccer Championship with a 3-1 victory over the McGill Redbirds on Sunday, at Vaso's Field. York's Yigal Bruk, Gianluca Condello, and Christian Zeppieri each scored, leading their team to triumph over the Redbirds.
McGill struck first in the 6th minute with a goal by Nathan Yee, assisted by Mujtaba Mirhasan. However, York responded robustly. Bruk tied the game in the 29th minute with a header off a corner kick, assisted by Ryan Robinson. Condello delivered a decisive volley later in the 36th minute from a collaboration between Zeppieri and Robinson.
In the second half, Zeppieri clinched York's victory with a well-timed tap-in during the 58th minute, set up by Bruk's assist. York's solid defense and eight saves from goalkeeper Alessio Carbone kept McGill from capitalizing further.
