CIS men's hockey Tuesday roundup: Ridgebacks let a lead slip away against Guelph

OSHAWA, Ont. – The UOIT men’s hockey team let a third period lead slip away on Tuesday night as the Guelph Gryphons skated away with a 7-4 victory over the Ridgebacks in their home opener.
Leading 4-2 heading into the final frame, UOIT gave up five unanswered goals to the Gryphons including the game-winner with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
OUA leading scorer Andrew Bathgate recorded a hat-trick for Guelph, as he scored the Gryphons seventh goal of the night into the empty net.
Justin Gvora had a five point night for Guelph with one goal and four assists while Brett Appio had three assists.
Scoring goals for UOIT were veterans Brendan Wise, Kevin George and Jesse Stoughton. Also getting on the scoresheet was Jordan Ramsay, who scored his first OUA career goal which gave UOIT a 4-2 lead in the second period.
Guelph’s power play was effective on the night running at .500 (3-for-6) while UOIT failed to score on five attempts with the man advantage.
Shots finished 37-31 in favour of Guelph including 11-5 in the third period.
UOIT will play their fourth game in six nights on Thursday as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks. Puck drop at the Campus Ice Centre is 7:30 p.m.
