Concordia avenges RSEQ final loss with consolation win over Bishop’s
The No. 8-seeded Concordia Stingers extended their season by one more game after an 81-66 win over the No. 5 Bishop's Gaiters in the first consolation game of the 2025 INDOCHINO U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Victory Creative Group, at the War Memorial Gym in Vancouver. The Stingers win avenges the 75-61 defeat the suffered to Bishop's on March 1 in the RSEQ final game at the Mitchell Gym in Lennoxville, and splits the season series between the two squads at 3-3.
The game featured five ties and six lead changes in a back-and-forth first half that ended with the Stingers up 40-39. However, the Gaiters went cold from the field in the second half, allowing Concordia to take a 57-51 third-quarter lead before putting the game away in the fourth.
The Stingers were led by Jaheem Joseph, who had a game-high 18 points, while Alec Phaneuf added 18 and Karam Sahly chipped in 17. For Bishop's, Charles Robert had15 points, with Zach John adding 16, Yanis Malanda finishing with 13 and Tiernan MacDougall adding 10.
While the Gaiters attempted 15 more shots than the Stingers, they hit only 31.5 per cent of them, going 23-for-73 from the field. They also struggled from beyond the arc, going 5-for-27 from three-point range. Concordia, meanwhile, shot 46.6 per cent overall (27-for-58) and was 11-for-23 from long distance.
Bishop's finishes their season with a record of 20-6 overall against U SPORTS competition, their first RSEQ title since 2020 and a tie for seventh place nationally. The Stingers move on to play either Queen's or UBC in the fifth place game on Saturday afternoon.
